The aerial trout stocking of the Upper Gauley River is complete for another year. The West Virginia Professional River Outfitters Association stocked 1,500 pounds of trout in the tailwaters of Summersville Dam on June 5th.
The annual stocking is done in cooperation with the West Virginia DNR aimed at enhancing the trout fishing opportunities on the Gauley, particularly in the remote canyon section of the waterway. The fish are delivered via helicopter.
This is the 23rd year stocking the Gauley and is a great partnership between the outfitters, the state, and the DNR. The stocking gives back to the anglers that enjoy fishing the Gauley and allows the most remote section of the river to be fished all summer long.
